Making Fire

$175.00$575.00

ABOUT THIS PAINTING:

The traditional Masai method to produce fire is by rubbing two pieces of wood. They make the fire by rotating a wood stick in a hole in a board. They use dried animal dung as part of their kindling, and with a shield of sticks divert the wind (theirs’s and nature’s) to encourage the fuel to light into a blaze. This is taught to children especially boys as young as five years and becomes a crucial skill throughout.
